From Surimeau, you can visit the Marais Poitevin ("The Green Venice"), the Bocage Vendéen, and numerous castles or Roman churches of the Poitou-Charentes region.

You must take your time and walk along the lanes of Surimeau, Echiré or Sciecq and so follow the steps of Madame de Maintenon, who was the second wife of Louis XIV. You will discover the castle of Mursay, the abode of her grand-father the poet Agrippa d’Aubigné.

Further along, in an other curve of the River Sèvre, you may step into the towers of Coudray-Salbart, a fortified castle dated back from the "Hundred years war".

It will takes you 45 minutes to drive to La Rochelle or an hour and a half to drive to the white sand beaches of Vendée.

If you prefer show, performance and entertainment, the Futuroscope (near Poitiers) or the Puy du Fou (in Vendée) are only 70 kilometers away.
